Florida Trip

We've been busy! We decided to make a run down to Florida to see family and to have Baby Michael baptized.

Our first day on the road we had a nice picnic in a rest area.

Our first stop was in St. Petersburg. There we got Baby Michael baptized in a lovely ceremony, conducted by his great grandfather, Reverend (Papa Paul) Leap.

More pictures will have to follow on that, but Holly loved to watch Papa Paul's trains.

She's a very good traveller.

Next stop was Lake Mary to visit Bumpa. And Beema..... And the pool!

Quick trip. Now we are home.

Weekend at Tim's

Last weekend we got a break from the farm and went to Tim's house. He was ready with a Chicken Marsala dinner, John's favorite. While we were there we also helped him with a couple of things. His ice maker was not delivering ice, so he and I pulled the fridge out and started troubleshooting end to end, only to find out there was a tube that had iced over just inside the freezer. Once that was cleared, ice was delivered. He was also having trouble with his dryer, but we feared that was a heating element, and we decided to let the landlord tackle that. We went out and bought an old fashioned drying rack to hold him over. Tim had made arrangements to replace a garage door opener, so we got that too, and he and John put it up.

John got a chance to try out Tim's fancy zero turn mower too.

Tractor Work!

This weekend I learned to drive the New Holland tractor. Lots of fun once I figured out the whole clutch:gear:speed thing. By the end of the day I was driving like a pro. The farmer only made a few faces at my mad skills.

Lots going on here!!

We are well into the summer months, and boy has it been hot. In the 90's most days, but once in a while a couple of days in the 80's. We continue to work on improving, always have a project under way. Here you can see where the farmer is putting in new posts for a nicer fence for the backyard and new gate.

Our bees continue to produce, we must have about two gallons or so of honey, which is a fantastic yield for first year hives. After we take honey off the frames, we set the frames out for the bees to clean up.

you have to plan on taking breaks during all this work, and how better to take a nap than with a baby.

When the days work is done, settle in with Uncle Tim for a little TV, and then a book with Daddy.

Honey From Our Hive!

In case you are wondering -- that is a quart jar! Seems a full frame gives a whole quart. There are 10 frames in a hive body!

Front patio on the barn

Yesterday Holly and I finished off the patio in front of the milk barn. So now it's a nice entry by the barn. No more tripping and wrenched ankles.

The Hive is Humming!

We looked for our two queens but did not find them :-(. Maybe next time. We did spot plenty of larvae and pupae. Also lots of capped honey and bee bread. We have honey supers ready to add to the hive, just waiting for 70% construction.

Here's a short movie of bees coming and going.

Picking flowers in the pasture on a sunny day

And I think my hydrangeas are going to be blue. At least the blooms that survived the freak frost!

I was in NY For a meeting last Thursday and got Holly this shirt. Of course she had to model it in front of my messy office, but at least she was sitting on her saddle.

Bees At Work

I need one of those Men At Work signs, only for bees. They have started working on foundation.
