Ferry to Prince Edward Island

We headed to the ferry port, in fact got there the night before. They said it was fine to park overnight in lane 8, the RV lane, so we did that. Had a little dinner and read until bed time. In the morning we woke to others getting in line for departure, and soon the ferry arrived.

Car after car and quite a few semi trucks emerged

Then it was our turn to board, er, roll on.

Once we were parked we went through the watertight doors.

And went up on deck to enjoy the view.

Then back down to the Minnie to get ready for departure and we safely deboarded

Shediac, NB

At this point point, plans changed. We were planning to go on to Nova Scotia, back to where we took the boys so many years ago. We stopped at Shediac at the tourist information center there. We knew we were traveling in the OFF, off season, so we were checking to make sure places we were going were still open. We meet a couple who had just come back from Prince Edward Island and raved about a park there. Those rave reviews, alone with the prospect of visiting Green Gables, of Anne Shirley fame made that destination irresistible. Then they said, "Plus, you can take the ferry over!" The ferry! You want me to put my Minnie on a ferry? Well, okay, we were game.

So we messed around in Shediac awhile.

Hopewell Rocks

Hopewell Rocks is one of our favorite places to visit. You can see why they call it flowerpot rocks.

New Brunswick is Beautiful

We stopped in one more cute little town. Really I've lost track of what towns we stopped in.

New Brunswick, Canada

Crossing over into Canada was pretty simple. Just showed out passports, yes sir, no sir, about a week sir, and away we went. In New Brunswick we were headed for Flower Pot Rocks. But first, a stop in Alma, New Brunswick to see the 40 ft tides.

We pulled into a little restaurant where we had eaten some 15 or so years ago. They let us park there indefinitely while we ate lunch, walked on the beach, and strolled through the town.

As usual, Papa John makes friends wherever he goes.

We will return to more vacation coverage after this short commercial break.

On the Road North Again

As we headed north, the signs changed

Another Stop in Maine

We are fond of the small towns. A stop at one gives us a chance to park, stretch our legs, and maybe have a nice lunch.

20131026-084243.jpg
See some interesting scenery.

20131026-084348.jpg
Maybe browse a few stores.

More Fun in Maine

We really enjoyed Maine. We stopped at Fort Popham. This is one of the forts that protects the river from invasions. It was started before the Civil War, was used in the Spanish-American war, and World War I, and still was never finished. We ate lunch at a little local diner and had some of the best haddock, scallops, and clams we've ever had.

The Minnie in NY and Maine

20131025-203143.jpg
Our first stop on the trip was in NY. We checked in with Aunt Roberta and Uncle Marty.

20131025-204245.jpg
Next we visited the church where Johns father was pastor.

20131025-203802.jpg

20131025-203826.jpg
Next on to Maine
We stopped in a campground where they would prepare you a lobster dinner and serve it to you on their porch. So John picked out a likely candidate and had him boiled up.
